Physiotherapy
The physiotherapy team provides a service to all areas in the hospital:
- Adult Neuro-disability
- Stroke and Rehabilitation Units for older people
- Day Hospital
- Continuing Care wards
There is great experience within the department, in particular specialising in neurology, gerontology and all areas relating to disability, seating
and spasticity.
There is an active, in-service education programme and the department is well resourced for continual professional development. Undergraduate
experience is also facilitated by accommodating physiotherapy students from TCD within the academic year. The department facilitates ongoing research projects, at present in the area of stroke, and
has representation on the Physiotherapy Research in Older People Group.
The physiotherapy department of The Royal Hospital Donnybrook is one of the best equipped physiotherapy departments in Ireland. It specialises in equipment to facilitate
walking and standing in the very physically compromised patient. It has the only Gait Trainer in Ireland and the UK.
The Physiotherapy Department enjoys very much being part of an integrated, interdisciplinary team in all areas of the hospital, and strives to deliver a high quality service
to all the patients within the hospital.
